The Iraqi government has announced that the Development Road Project will be managed by a newly established company that is entirely Iraqi-owned and will report directly to the Prime Minister. This move is seen as a major step toward ensuring transparent and efficient management of one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
Nasser Al-Asadi, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Transportation Affairs, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that after extensive study and discussion during a recent meeting of the Higher Committee for the Development Road, the government chose to create a company under the Companies Law rather than a government authority or another legal structure.
This new company will:
• Be fully owned by Iraq;
• Oversee all financial, engineering, economic, and investment aspects of the Development Road;
• Function independently from the Ministry of Transport;
• Have its own set of laws and operational rules;
• Manage investment shares tied to the project.
Al-Asadi emphasized the strategic and international importance of the Development Road, calling it a global project that requires a specialized and independent body to manage it effectively. The new company is expected to ensure smooth implementation, attract investment, and uphold transparency throughout the project’s development.
