China is stepping up its energy cooperation with the Middle East. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited the region to discuss strategies with regional leaders. He highlighted both traditional and new energy partnerships. Energy cooperation is now a key driver for economic and technological collaboration.
During high-level meetings, Wang Yi emphasized strengthening ties across the oil and gas sectors. In addition, he promoted renewable and clean energy projects, especially with the UAE. This dual approach shows the growing importance of energy cooperation as countries balance growth with climate goals.
The Middle East offers significant opportunities for energy cooperation. The region has rich oil and gas reserves but is increasingly investing in clean energy. National strategies such as UAE Net Zero 2050, Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, and Qatar’s National Vision 2030 aim to expand renewable energy initiatives. They also focus on achieving long-term sustainability.
Investment in the regional new energy sector is projected to reach $10 billion in 2025, according to the International Energy Agency. Sovereign wealth funds are crucial in financing clean energy infrastructure. Stephen Groff, governor of Saudi Arabia’s National Development Fund, noted that the fund uses various investment vehicles to support sustainable energy projects.
Chinese companies are rapidly expanding their role in the Middle East’s new energy market. Both state-owned and private firms, including the Power Construction Corporation of China, CATL, and JA Solar, are partnering with Middle Eastern entities. One major initiative is a $6 billion gigascale energy project in the UAE, which began construction this year.
Analysts note that China has the most complete new energy industrial chain. It also has high efficiency in production and competitive pricing. Meanwhile, the Middle East offers abundant resources and strong policy support. This combination makes energy cooperation highly promising.
Looking ahead, energy cooperation is expected to accelerate green technology adoption. It will also foster innovation and create sustainable investment opportunities. Both sides aim to achieve long-term economic benefits while advancing environmental objectives.
Energy cooperation is becoming a strategic priority. It demonstrates a long-term commitment to shared development and energy transition across China and the Middle East.
