Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Advance Divided Zone Projects

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait strengthened cooperation on major Divided Zone Projects during a meeting in Al-Khafji, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday. Furthermore, the discussions highlighted the countries’ commitment to energy development and regulatory coordination.

The Permanent Joint Saudi-Kuwaiti Committee met under the co-chairmanship of Kuwait’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nimer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, and Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Minister of Energy, Mohammed Al-Brahim. In addition, they focused on creating a unified tax framework to improve revenue collection and transparency.

Officials reviewed petroleum operations across onshore and offshore areas. They also examined ongoing projects, strategic plans, and potential implementation challenges. Moreover, they discussed advanced technologies, environmental and safety measures, and workforce training programs.

The meeting follows a memorandum of understanding signed on December 24, 2019. As a result, coordination between the two countries has strengthened. Sheikh Nimer Al-Sabah stressed the importance of holding regular meetings to monitor operations and accelerate project implementation.

Chevron Saudi Arabia’s evacuation from Al-Zour sites was also discussed. Kuwait officially assumed control of the locations on January 20. This handover reflects strong cooperation and efficient project management between both nations.

The committee addressed logistical improvements at border crossings. For instance, dedicated routes were established at Al-Nuwaiseeb and Al-Khafji. Meanwhile, new lanes and upgraded technical infrastructure enhanced staff mobility and supported smoother operations.

Officials reviewed development and investment plans for onshore and offshore fields. They emphasized the need to accelerate implementation and provide full support for engineering and technical work. Furthermore, these measures will optimize resource management and efficiency.

Sheikh Nimer Al-Sabah praised the cooperation of Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, Aramco Gulf Operations Company, and Chevron Saudi Arabia. He added that close collaboration strengthens regional energy strategy and ensures the success of Divided Zone Projects.

The Divided Zone Projects highlight both nations’ commitment to transparency, technology adoption, and sustainable energy production. In addition, experts say these initiatives will boost long-term energy security and investor confidence in the region.

Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait plan to implement unified frameworks, modernize infrastructure, and expand joint investments. Therefore, these steps reinforce their strategic energy partnership in the Divided Zone.
