Baghdad Hosts 1,100+ Companies at Economy of Future International Fair

Baghdad is proving its economic resurgence as it hosts the 49th Baghdad International Fair, drawing more than 1,100 local, Arab, and international companies from 36 countries. The event demonstrates Iraq’s growing appeal to investors while highlighting opportunities across trade, industry, energy, and technology.

The fair runs from February 1 to 7 at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds. Business leaders and diplomatic missions can attend from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while the general public is welcome from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Exhibitions feature sectors ranging from technology and energy to industrial manufacturing.

The Ministry of Trade said the scale of participation reflects growing confidence in Iraq as an investment destination. Officials also highlighted intense competition among companies seeking entry, driven by strong consumer demand and expanding partnership opportunities.

Sattar Al-Jabri, undersecretary for administrative affairs at the ministry, emphasized the fair’s role as a platform that combines economic, social, and political engagement. He added that cultural activities, including daily performances by traditional Baghdad folklore groups, enrich the visitor experience.

First-time participants are exploring new investment prospects. Raed Ahmed, a Qatari oil-sector executive, highlighted opportunities in internationally certified plastic pipe production and potential cooperation with the Baghdad Municipality.

Rezaei Ali, an Iranian industrial company executive, said his firm joined the fair to explore investment opportunities in carbonate and dolomite production in Iraq.

Domestically, Raed Riyadh, marketing manager at an Iraqi firm, noted that the fair provides an important platform to promote Iraqi products and finalize business deals with international partners.

Analysts said the Baghdad International Fair highlights Iraq’s commitment to attracting foreign investment, supporting local businesses, and creating long-term economic partnerships. With its focus on innovation, trade growth, and international collaboration, the fair signals Iraq’s readiness to compete on the global business stage.
