Iraq is moving to strengthen ties with Uzbekistan by planning direct flights between the two countries. With a population of about 46 million and an estimated $53 billion in annual import demand, Iraq represents a large market for Uzbek exporters. Additionally, Uzbek furniture and electrical equipment exports to Iraq amount to roughly $1.2 billion and $3 billion respectively. Analysts say these figures show strong potential for deeper economic integration.
Experts also predict that direct flights will accelerate trade growth and strengthen bilateral relations. Better air connectivity will support tourism, business delegation visits, and cultural exchanges. Over time, officials plan to encourage investment in logistics, airport infrastructure, and transport services in both countries.
The planned flights form part of a broader strategy to expand regional partnerships. Officials stressed that enhancing travel and trade ties will support small and medium-sized enterprises and diversify economic relations. They also noted that stronger connectivity aligns with both countries’ goals for regional cooperation and sustainable economic development.
