Dr. SV Anchan, a leading Indian-American maritime executive, has earned global recognition for his exceptional leadership and industry impact. The maritime leadership award highlights his role in promoting international cooperation and business excellence, underscoring the importance of maritime strategy in global trade.
The award ceremony took place on February 8 in Bahrain and was jointly organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce. The Washington-based ACE Health Foundation also supported the recognition, emphasizing its international significance.
During the event, Dr. Anchan stressed the value of collaboration among global business leaders. He highlighted that strengthening connections across industries and regions fosters innovation and long-term value. He further pledged to convert opportunities into tangible outcomes that benefit the wider maritime sector.
Dr. Anchan reflected on his long-standing professional relationship with Bahrain, dating back over two decades. He recalled supervising early operations under the United Nations Oil-for-Food Programme, supporting humanitarian shipping efforts in the Gulf. This work established Bahrain as a strategic maritime hub critical for regional vessel security.
He emphasized that Bahrain’s geographic location and strong maritime foundation make it a natural partner in international shipping. According to Dr. Anchan, countries that invest in maritime development strengthen their long-term economic success, while those that neglect it risk losing global influence.
The award also celebrates Dr. Anchan’s historic career achievements. In 2025, he became the first Indian-American appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Club, a prestigious mutual Protection and Indemnity organization covering most global shipping operations. His appointment highlights his expertise and influence in international maritime insurance.
Dr. Anchan brings over 30 years of experience across shipping, logistics, and maritime operations, representing a third-generation leadership legacy. India has recognized him with top overseas shipping honors, while global institutions have acknowledged his leadership, innovation, and contributions to the industry.
