Qatar Airways Evacuates Thousands Amid Middle East Conflict

Qatar Airways flights helped evacuate more than 7,600 Indian nationals from Doha to India amid the escalating Middle East conflict. The Indian embassy in Qatar confirmed that 25 flights operated between March 20 and 22. This rapid effort marked a crucial response to ongoing regional tensions and airspace disruptions.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the operation reflects coordinated planning between Qatar Airways and Indian authorities. The airline had earlier announced limited flights until March 28, 2026, citing safety concerns related to the conflict. Passengers could book available seats via the airline’s website, mobile app, or travel agents.

Between February 28 and March 22, nearly 3.75 lakh Indian citizens returned from West Asia, reflecting the scale of the evacuation efforts. Flights from Oman and Saudi Arabia continue to operate, though Qatari airspace is only partially open. Meanwhile, airspace in Kuwait and Bahrain remains closed.

According to MEA Additional Secretary (Gulf) Aseem R Mahajan, Qatar Airways flights arranged 10 special services on March 20 alone. “Flight situation continues to improve. We are coordinating with airlines to ensure safe, non-scheduled flights as conditions allow,” Mahajan added.

The ongoing war has severely disrupted global air travel. Major hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi have faced partial or complete closures, affecting thousands of passengers. Airlines like IndiGo have suspended flights to multiple destinations, including Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah, until March 28.

Experts say Qatar Airways flights demonstrate strong operational resilience under crisis conditions. The airline shifted aircraft to alternate locations and adjusted schedules to prioritize passenger safety. Additionally, the efforts highlight regional collaboration between airlines and governments during emergencies.

Limited flight operations will continue while monitoring the conflict. Authorities and airlines urge passengers to check schedules regularly and book through official channels. Qatar Airways flights remain central to evacuation planning, ensuring Indian nationals return safely.

This evacuation underscores the importance of timely coordination, flexibility, and crisis management. The scale of Qatar Airways flights shows the airline’s commitment to passengers and highlights how global conflicts impact air travel and regional mobility.
