Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Abu Dhabi Exosphere will become one of the region’s most ambitious entertainment projects. Authorities unveiled the $1.7 billion venue for Yas Island. The landmark combines immersive technology with Emirati culture. It also strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a global tourism and entertainment destination.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Sphere Entertainment Co. are developing the project together. Their partnership will introduce the first Sphere venue outside the United States. They expect to complete construction by the end of 2029.
The Abu Dhabi Exosphere will rise between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. Its massive programmable LED exterior, known as the Exosphere, will display large-scale digital artwork. It will also showcase cultural themes and immersive visual experiences across the city.
Unlike the Las Vegas Sphere, the Abu Dhabi Exosphere will focus on national identity. Officials plan to showcase Emirati heritage while supporting local artists. They also aim to present cultural stories through interactive digital displays and original productions.
In addition, the venue will host concerts, immersive exhibitions, sporting events, technology conferences, and cultural performances. These experiences will attract international visitors while serving local audiences throughout the year.
The project will also encourage community participation. Authorities plan to organize competitions for school and university students. As a result, young creatives will have the opportunity to showcase their work on the building’s digital façade.
Moreover, officials expect Abu Dhabi’s clear skies and open landscape to make the illuminated structure visible from major highways, bridges, and parts of Abu Dhabi Island. Consequently, the Exosphere will become one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
The investment supports Abu Dhabi’s long-term strategy to diversify its economy through tourism, culture, and entertainment. It also complements Yas Island’s growing collection of theme parks, museums, sporting venues, hotels, and leisure attractions.
Additionally, the project reflects the UAE’s commitment to combining advanced technology with cultural preservation. The venue blends digital innovation with local heritage. As a result, it will deliver a distinctly Emirati experience instead of replicating attractions elsewhere.
Looking ahead, the Abu Dhabi Exosphere will strengthen the emirate’s international profile after its planned completion in 2029. It will attract millions of visitors and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become a leading destination for culture, innovation, and immersive entertainment.
