Omani Group Mubbadrah Leads Consortium Planning $3 Billion, 400-Megawatt AI Data Center in Oman

Omani investment group Mubbadrah Investment said a consortium it leads plans to develop a $3 billion artificial intelligence data center in Oman, with planned capacity of up to 400 megawatts on completion.

The consortium includes Sustopia Capital, Vela Tech and O2 Global Energy. The project is designed to serve hyperscale computing operators and to support large-scale AI training and inference workloads, with scope for future expansion.

The project was announced at a signing ceremony in London during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to the United Kingdom, TradeArabia reported. Nasser bin Khamis Al Jashmi, chairman of the Oman Tax Authority, and Liane Saunders, the UK ambassador to Oman, attended. Muscat Daily also reported the plan.

US AI infrastructure company Crusoe has expressed interest in becoming a potential buyer of the campus’s data center capacity, according to the announcement. The consortium expects to sign a confirmation of that interest in the coming weeks.

The facility will draw power from the national grid and renewable sources. O2 Global Energy will develop 400 megawatts of solar generation capacity, supported by battery storage, to supply additional power to the campus.

Sustopia Capital and Vela Tech are developing, designing and building about 20 gigawatts of AI data center capacity globally, the announcement said. Vela Tech will support the design and manage construction.

“Oman has the stability, the strategic location and the energy resources to become a regional home for AI infrastructure,” said Yasser Albarami, chief executive of Mubbadrah Investment, which has a portfolio of more than 20 companies across oil and gas, hospitality, healthcare and other sectors.

The announcement did not give a timeline for construction or the project’s location in Oman.

It follows a separate plan by UK group Yamna for an AI data center in Salalah, announced during the same state visit.
