The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is building 15 electricity distribution substations at a total cost of AED381.5 million, as it expands its network to meet rising demand in the emirate.
The authority has also commissioned two new 33 kV distribution substations, it said on Sunday, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and the government news site Sharjah24.

One of the new substations runs on an advanced pilot system. The other is the first phase of the Industrial Area 3 A substation.
The second phase of the Industrial Area 3 A substation is 95% complete, SEWA said.
The 15 substations under construction are rated at 33/11 kV and have a combined cost of AED381,513,038. Four of them are scheduled for completion this year.
The new substations are spread across different parts of the emirate to serve development projects and new residential communities, said Hamad Al Tunaiji, director of SEWA’s power transmission department.
Abdullah Al Koos, deputy director of the department, said the projects were running on schedule.
