Iraq Advances Development Road Strategy with Key Advisors

As top officials meet with international consultants, Iraq continues progressing with its Development Road strategy. Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi led a key meeting at the headquarters of the General Company for Iraqi Railways. The session included financial advisory representatives from Oliver Wyman.

In addition, the meeting welcomed Dr. Maki Jabir Nasser, Director-General of Iraqi Railways, and Engineer Safaa Jabbar, the Project Manager. Together, they reviewed the current progress of the transport initiative. The discussions covered economic models, governance plans, and the development of industrial zones along the proposed route.

Moreover, Minister Al-Saadawi emphasized the need to continue workshops and meetings with both Oliver Wyman and the Italian firm BTP. These sessions aim to finalize the core technical and financial details of the Development Road strategy. They also help align efforts across various government ministries involved in economic planning.

He further stressed that the national infrastructure plan must become a part of Iraq’s broader transport vision. Therefore, he requested more detailed studies and tighter cooperation between the railway company, the project’s Higher Committee, and other state institutions. This would ensure smooth execution and long-term success.

At the same time, the participants discussed how the road would connect industrial cities and create new investment zones. These connections are expected to strengthen Iraq’s logistics, stimulate trade, and attract investors. The project team also reviewed technical coordinates for future development areas along the route.

Furthermore, Oliver Wyman and BTP agreed to help build internal and external governance structures for the Development Road strategy. This includes working on both sustainable systems and temporary frameworks that can guide the early stages. Their continued involvement plays a central role in shaping Iraq’s transport vision.

Officials also mentioned the importance of aligning the project plan with regional economic trends. They believe this will help Iraq become a major transport hub in the Middle East. With every session, the planning team gets closer to launching one of Iraq’s largest infrastructure investments in recent years.

As meetings continue, the Ministry of Transport plans to organize more alignment workshops. These sessions will bring together national experts, consultants, and technical advisors to maintain clear communication and fast decision-making.

The Ministry remains confident that the Development Road strategy will boost Iraq’s economy and regional standing. All teams involved aim to ensure that the national project runs smoothly from design to implementation.
