United Development Company (UDC) has made major strides in environmental development. The company earned four major global awards under the Qatar sustainability achievements category at the Green World Awards 2025. These awards confirm UDC’s position as a leader in sustainable development in Qatar.
The company develops The Pearl and Gewan Islands. Both projects received international praise for their sustainable efforts. Moreover, UDC earned a place in the World Green Book. This global publication showcases the best in green practices across the planet.
UDC won the Gold Award for Energy Management at Gewan Island. The award celebrates projects that cut emissions and increase efficiency. UDC aims to reduce carbon emissions by 12 percent before 2026. To do this, the company uses centralized cooling and renewable energy.
These steps already helped prevent over 1,700 tons of CO₂ emissions. That equals planting more than 29,000 trees over ten years. It also achieved two Guinness World Records on Gewan Island. These records include the largest outdoor air-conditioned shopping area and the biggest outdoor lighting canopy using LEDs.
In addition, UDC earned the Silver Award for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at The Pearl Island. The company places CSR at the center of all its operations. It promotes social responsibility, supports environmental protection, and ensures ethical governance. These efforts show how Qatar sustainability achievements go beyond infrastructure to include human well-being and fairness.
Moreover, UDC received the Bronze Award for Pollution and Emission Control. Gewan Island has reduced plastic use and improved waste segregation. The company also recycles electronic waste and uses international best practices. These actions continue to raise environmental standards within UDC properties.
Lastly, UDC became the first Qatari developer to install marine waste systems. Projects like Seabin and Collec’Thor Sea Cleaners help clean Qatar’s waters. These programs remove trash and floating debris near coastlines and marina areas.
The four awards highlight how the project is leading the region in urban eco-solutions. UDC’s projects show that real estate can succeed while helping the planet.
