Kuwait’s construction and energy sectors saw substantial growth in January, with the country securing $1.2 billion in contract awards. This placed Kuwait third in the region, highlighting its increasing role in regional infrastructure development.
A large portion of the awards, totaling $847 million, is dedicated to transportation projects. These contracts, approved by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, are focused on enhancing infrastructure south of Saad Al-Abdullah City in Jahra Governorate.
Two major contracts were awarded to the Chinese company Gezhouba Group, valued at $557 million. Additionally, a Kuwaiti company, the Kuwaiti Company for Construction of Factories and Contracting, secured a contract worth $290 million, contributing to local business growth.
The energy sector also saw significant investment in January. Two major contracts, totaling $209 million, were awarded to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. One project, valued at $105 million, involves establishing a 400/132/11 kilovolt power station in Nawaf Al-Ahmad Residential City. The other, priced at $104 million, is for a similar power station in South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City.
Kuwait’s maritime sector also received attention with two key contracts awarded by the Ministry of Public Works. The first, worth $100 million, focuses on the development of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port (Phase 1). The second contract, worth $50 million, is dedicated to constructing the headquarters building for the Ports Authority.
Kuwait’s $1.2 billion in contract awards placed it third in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, behind the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The total value of contract awards in the MENA region reached $29.5 billion in January, with the UAE leading at $12.8 billion and Saudi Arabia following at $2.97 billion.
This surge in contract awards signals continued growth in infrastructure and regional collaboration. It positions Kuwait as a key player in the Gulf’s expanding market, especially in transportation, energy, and maritime sectors.
