UAE: Sheikh Mohamed Issues Law on Abu Dhabi Customs

President Sheikh Mohamed has issued a new law restructuring the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs. The law grants the entity independent legal status and expands its responsibilities in regulating customs operations across the emirate.

Under the new framework, Abu Dhabi Customs will propose general policies and strategic plans for customs affairs. It will also work to facilitate trade, ensure compliance with regulations, and protect society from illegal practices.

The administration’s core duties include inspecting goods, collecting customs duties and taxes, and overseeing free zones, free markets, and customs warehouses. It will also combat smuggling and customs-related crimes in collaboration with relevant authorities, taking legal action against violators.

Additionally, the administration will manage the sale of confiscated goods, enforce customs exemptions, and oversee conciliation settlements. It will also be responsible for operating customs offices, implementing policies, and advising on establishing or closing customs facilities.

Abu Dhabi Customs will regulate the movement of goods across ports and free zones, ensuring smooth logistics operations. It will also oversee customs clearance processes, issue permits, and monitor customs brokers to ensure regulatory compliance.
