The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has begun a series of workshops to introduce the Advanced Wage Payment Platform to private sector employers. The initiative aims to ensure timely and fair salary disbursements while boosting transparency and compliance across the labour market.
To begin with, through the digital wage system, companies are required to pay salaries electronically via banks and financial institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain. This approach allows LMRA to link directly with key government agencies and the banking sector. The platform provides real-time payroll data, making payments more accurate and traceable.
During the workshops, LMRA representatives guided businesses of all sizes, as well as HR professionals, on adopting the modern salary payment framework. Participants learned how the platform simplifies payroll management and reduces administrative burdens, particularly for smaller companies.
The electronic wage management system also safeguards workers’ rights. By recording payments digitally, it provides legal proof of wage compliance. This transparency helps prevent salary disputes and speeds up resolution if disagreements occur. Employers can designate a Wages Responsible Person via the Expatriate Management System to oversee submissions and ensure accuracy.
Officials noted that the initiative aligns with Bahrain’s broader strategy to strengthen its labour market and enhance economic competitiveness. It supports national goals to modernize administrative processes and foster a fairer work environment.
Business leaders attending the workshops welcomed the digital transition. They highlighted how the automated wage platform reduces manual errors and improves financial planning. LMRA emphasized that electronic payments enhance governance and strengthen employer-employee relationships.
Beyond compliance, the innovative payroll system fosters trust in the private sector. It enhances Bahrain’s reputation as a transparent, well-regulated economy, attracting foreign investment and supporting sustainable growth.
As LMRA continues training more employers, it plans to expand the wage digitization program and integrate additional payroll automation and reporting features. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting businesses through technical guidance, awareness campaigns, and ongoing collaboration with the financial sector.
