Oman and Spain Strengthen Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Oman and Spain reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic partnerships. They aim to promote innovation and expand investment frameworks. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq visited Spain to highlight the deep historical ties between the two royal families. The visit emphasized cooperation to benefit both peoples.

During the meetings, Sultan Haitham met King Felipe VI of Spain and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. They discussed issues of mutual and international interest. Both leaders highlighted the importance of peace and stability in global conflict regions. They welcomed the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement, which established a ceasefire, released hostages, and provided humanitarian access to Gaza. They also praised mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. The leaders stressed the need for a fair solution that protects both Palestinian and Israeli rights.

The leaders reaffirmed the Palestinian right to self-determination and supported establishing a sovereign state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They recommended that the UN General Assembly’s “New York Declaration on Implementing the Two-State Solution” guide lasting peace. Both expressed deep concern about Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and backed international efforts to deliver aid and rebuild the region.

The leaders emphasized resolving conflicts through diplomatic dialogue. They agreed to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. They also highlighted the importance of international collaboration to boost economic growth and sustain partnerships.

During the visit, the countries signed a mutual visa exemption agreement for official passport holders. They also signed several memoranda of understanding covering cultural and sports cooperation, clean energy, investment promotion, water management, transport, and agriculture. Both nations expressed satisfaction with their current investment partnership and aim to expand it further. They plan future collaboration in manufacturing, mining, tourism, artificial intelligence, energy, and space technology.

Representatives of leading Spanish companies discussed priority sectors and explored innovative collaboration opportunities. Subsequent negotiations between the chambers of commerce led to additional MoUs, strengthening business and strategic ties between Oman and Spain.

The visit also strengthened cooperation aimed at advancing development goals in both nations. Oman and Spain worked to expand investment channels and promote innovation. Their discussions focused on shared interests and long-term partnerships designed to promote sustainable economic growth and cultural exchange that benefit both peoples.

Looking ahead, Oman and Spain pledged to deepen cooperation in energy transition, carbon neutrality, renewable energy, and green hydrogen development. Both nations will also collaborate on water resource management and sustainable hydrological solutions. They emphasized academic and research exchanges, aiming to improve access to archives and launch joint initiatives in historical studies involving governments, academia, and the private sector.

The leaders expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the visit and determination to build on the positive momentum. Sultan Haitham thanked King Felipe VI, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and the Spanish people for their warm welcome and exceptional hospitality throughout the state visit.
