Dubai Metro Blue progress accelerates with 10 percent of the construction now complete, marking a major step in Dubai’s transport expansion. The project involves more than 500 engineers and international experts working across 12 sites. This development highlights Dubai’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and connectivity.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), led by Director General Mattar Al Tayer, oversees the 30-kilometer Dubai Metro Blue line. The line will feature 14 stations and link the existing Red and Green Lines. Al Tayer confirmed the project’s progress during an announcement on November 9, emphasizing its strategic significance.
Construction began in June 2025, with a projected completion of 30 percent by the end of 2026. The line is scheduled to open officially on September 9, 2029. Al Tayer noted that the Blue Line will serve areas expected to house around one million residents by 2040, significantly improving public transport access.
In addition to connectivity benefits, the Dubai Metro Blue project directly supports Dubai Urban Plan 2040. The line integrates the fifth urban area into the metro network and advances the “20-minute city” concept. Residents will be able to reach more than 80 percent of essential services within 20 minutes.
Experts emphasize that the project also reinforces Transit-Oriented Development principles. The Dubai Metro Blue line aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which promotes sustainable growth and urban efficiency. Projected economic benefits exceed AED 56.5 billion by 2040, including time and fuel savings and reduced accident-related fatalities.
Property values around the Blue Line stations are expected to rise by up to 25 percent. Traffic congestion along corridors served by the line could decrease by 20 percent. These improvements demonstrate the broader social and economic impacts of the metro expansion.
The RTA employs over 3,000 workers across 12 sites to ensure high construction standards and timely progress. Engineers and experts focus on quality, safety, and advanced project management techniques to meet international benchmarks.
Mattar Al Tayer highlighted that the Dubai Metro Blue project will provide direct journeys to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes. He also stressed the line’s role in enhancing residents’ quality of life and supporting sustainable urban growth.
As the Dubai Metro Blue construction continues, the project sets a benchmark for integrated urban transport solutions in the region. With multiple milestones ahead, the line promises to transform Dubai’s public transport landscape while delivering long-term economic and social benefits.
