Abu Dhabi vertiports are set to transform urban transportation with the launch of the world’s first comprehensive eVTOL network. Consequently, the initiative aims to provide fast, low-emission travel connecting key city destinations.
The project, announced on November 10, 2025, plans to roll out over ten public vertiports, with the first eVTOL flights expected in 2026. Moreover, this phased approach ensures gradual integration into the city’s transport ecosystem.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Abu Dhabi Airports (ADA), and Abu Dhabi Mobility’s Integrated Transport Centre. Together, these agencies will oversee development, regulation, and operational safety.
Abu Dhabi vertiports will link major hubs, including Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Al Bateen Executive Airport (AZI). In addition, future landing sites are likely to include Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, the Cruise Terminal, and Abu Dhabi Island.
The eVTOL aircraft will offer quick, efficient, and low-emission transport. Furthermore, smart systems managed by Abu Dhabi Mobility will integrate digital and ground connectivity, creating a seamless urban transport experience.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, described the initiative as “the beginning of a new era” for UAE aviation. He also said it represents a significant leap in infrastructure and sustainable mobility.
Badr Al-Olama, Director-General of ADIO, highlighted that the project underscores Abu Dhabi’s partnership-driven approach to future-focused industries. Additionally, he emphasized that integrating eVTOLs accelerates smart mobility while enhancing residents’ quality of life.
The vertiport network supports the UAE’s environmental goals. By using electric aircraft, the city reduces emissions compared with traditional air and ground transport options. Consequently, the initiative strengthens Abu Dhabi’s sustainable transport ambitions.
Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, called the program “a significant milestone in shaping urban mobility,” ensuring efficiency, safety, and sustainability under a clear governance framework.
Elena Sorlini, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, noted that the authority will drive infrastructure development and operations. She added that the partnership positions Abu Dhabi at the forefront of next-generation aviation.
The eVTOL network is expected to shorten travel times, improve accessibility, and integrate seamlessly into Abu Dhabi’s broader transport system. Therefore, this advancement could serve as a model for other cities globally.
By introducing cutting-edge air mobility, Abu Dhabi aims to lead in sustainable, innovative transportation while fostering economic diversification. Moreover, the initiative aligns with the emirate’s vision of smart, connected urban infrastructure.
The project also creates opportunities for local employment, technology development, and international collaboration, thus supporting Abu Dhabi’s broader economic and sustainability goals.
Looking ahead, authorities plan to expand vertiports and eVTOL routes, solidifying Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for advanced air mobility and sustainable urban transport.
