Baghdad Airport Modernisation Moves Ahead with AFM Group

Baghdad airport modernisation gained momentum as AFM Group signed two key agreements with Iraq’s air navigation authority. AFM Group is a Swiss-based firm known for developing advanced airport systems worldwide. The deals were signed with Iraq’s General Company for Air Navigation Services, also known as GCANS. Together, both parties aim to upgrade key infrastructure at Baghdad International Airport.

First, the project will modernise the airport’s airfield lighting system. The new lighting system will use energy-efficient LED technology. This upgrade will not only save power but also improve visibility for aircraft. Moreover, it ensures safer night-time operations and better efficiency.

Second, the Baghdad airport modernisation project includes replacing the airport’s existing navigation equipment. This includes key systems that support aircraft landing and takeoff procedures. In addition, GCANS and AFM Group will introduce new communication and monitoring tools. These tools will enhance air traffic control across Baghdad’s busy airspace.

As a result, pilots and control tower operators will have better real-time coordination. This helps reduce delays and increases safety at one of Iraq’s busiest airports. Furthermore, the project shows Iraq’s commitment to aviation sector modernisation. It aligns with broader national goals for rebuilding and attracting international travel.

By working with international partners like AFM Group, Iraq gains technical expertise. The agreements also demonstrate global interest in Iraq’s infrastructure development. Also, Baghdad airport modernisation the introduction of new systems supports the airport’s long-term sustainability.

Notably, LED lighting and smart controls will cut energy use and reduce maintenance costs. AFM Group’s CEO expressed pride in supporting Iraq’s aviation progress. He said the project combines safety, sustainability, and innovation for future-ready airports. Meanwhile, GCANS officials highlighted the project’s economic and operational benefits.

They expect smoother air traffic flow and increased capacity for domestic and international flights. Baghdad airport modernisation continues to attract support from both public and private sectors. This cooperation shows growing trust in Iraq’s potential as a regional hub.

Importantly, the upgrades will raise Baghdad International Airport’s service quality. Passengers and airlines will experience smoother operations and enhanced airport infrastructure. Baghdad airport modernisation is a priority for the Iraqi government and the aviation industry. It marks a step forward in connecting Iraq more efficiently to global networks.
