Bahrain strengthened its industrial ambitions with two major agreements between Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard and leading Italian partners. The signing took place in Manama during a high-level event attended by Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Their presence highlighted the strategic weight of the cooperation.
ASRY and Fincantieri agreed to develop naval surface vessels of up to 80 meters for Bahrain’s security forces. The plan includes new platforms for the Navy and Coast Guard. Moreover, both sides will explore offshore patrol designs and regional export opportunities. The move gives Bahrain a stronger role in regional ship construction.
Additionally, the agreement promotes long-term collaboration in design, maintenance, and advanced shipbuilding processes. This focus creates new technical pathways for Bahraini engineers and technicians. It also positions the Gulf state as a credible partner for regional maritime projects.
Furthermore, ASRY and Roboze will launch Bahrain’s first industrial additive-manufacturing hub. The new facility will operate inside ASRY and will produce high-performance polymer and composite components. These materials support naval, aerospace, and energy systems. The plant also accelerates repair cycles and reduces reliance on imported metal parts.
Roboze will bring deep expertise in advanced 3D manufacturing. The company aims to help Bahrain build real operational capacity rather than basic demonstration models. This approach supports Bahrain maritime growth through technology-driven production.
ASRY CEO Ahmed Al Abri said the agreements expand Bahrain’s ability to deliver modern fabrication and repair services. He noted that the partnerships create new commercial opportunities across the Gulf. Roboze CEO Alessio Lorusso added that the collaboration focuses on practical implementation and long-term capability development.
Regionally, the deals arrive at a time when many Gulf countries seek stronger control over their maritime assets. Local production reduces repair delays and improves fleet readiness. It also supports economic diversification, which remains a central national priority.
