The Rwanga Foundation’s Clean Energy initiative has successfully delivered 24-hour electricity to Sheikh Wasan village in Erbil province. The project marks a major milestone in expanding sustainable power access across rural areas of the Kurdistan Region.
Sheikh Wasan is now the fourth village in the region to benefit from the foundation’s efforts. The project provides electricity to 68 homes as well as the mosque, school, health center, and public hall. Residents now enjoy a reliable daily supply of 1,237 amperes.
Kamal Osman, a 73-year-old resident, expressed his relief and gratitude. He said that life before the Clean Energy project was difficult, as frequent blackouts made it challenging to return home safely. “This electricity means everything for us,” he added.
Other villagers also highlighted the importance of uninterrupted power. Gulnas Sulaiman explained that two residents require continuous oxygen due to chemical exposure, making the reliable supply critical for their survival.
H.E Idris Nechirvan Barzani, President and Founder of Rwanga Foundation, attended the project completion ceremony. Hassan Shekh Aladin, Executive Director, noted that several families returned to their homes after learning the electricity issue was resolved. He added that providing essential services strengthens village life and protects food security.
Over the first seven months of this year, the foundation’s Clean Energy initiative delivered 3,117 amperes of electricity to 183 households across four villages. This effort demonstrates the tangible social and economic impact of sustainable electricity solutions in rural communities.
Experts observe that access to electricity improves education, healthcare, and overall quality of life. It also supports local economies and encourages residents to remain in their villages rather than migrate to urban centers.
Looking ahead, the foundation plans to expand the Clean Energy program to additional villages. This expansion will continue to improve living conditions, enhance community resilience, and promote sustainable development across the region.
The project underscores the value of Clean Energy solutions in Iraq and highlights how targeted initiatives can transform rural communities while supporting regional stability.
