Dubai Harbour Bridge Set to Cut Travel Times, Boost Waterfront Access

Dubai Harbour Bridge, a 1.5-kilometre link connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour, will open later this year. The Dubai Harbour Bridge will not only reduce travel times but also improve traffic flow and enhance the waterfront district as a key maritime hub.

Currently, the Roads and Transport Authority has completed 65 per cent of construction. Consequently, the bridge will carry up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. Officials expect travel times to drop from 12 minutes to just three, improving commuter efficiency.

Moreover, the RTA collaborates closely with Dubai Harbour owner Shamal Holding. Workers have finished 90 per cent of utility service upgrades along the route, which allows smooth continuation of construction. The RTA plans to complete the bridge in the third quarter of 2026, between July and September.

Previously, RTA awarded a Dh431 million contract in June 2024. Therefore, the project aligns with Dubai’s strategy to expand transport networks alongside urban growth. Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general, said the bridge reflects leadership plans to build integrated infrastructure, supporting rapid urban development.

The bridge starts at Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai. It then crosses Al Naseem Street, Al Falak Street, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, before connecting to Dubai Harbour Street. In addition, engineers are improving four major intersections along the route to ensure better traffic flow.

Dubai Harbour hosts two cruise terminals, a large marina, residential developments, and leisure facilities. Furthermore, the district hosts the Dubai International Boat Show. Shamal Holding is developing 24 towers and 7,500 apartments along the waterfront.

In June, Shamal awarded a Dh1 billion contract to Khansaheb Civil Engineering for Dubai Harbour Residences. The project will deliver luxury beachfront homes. Abdulla Binhabtoor, Shamal CEO, said the Dubai Harbour Bridge improves daily commutes. He also noted that the bridge strengthens the district as a fully integrated maritime destination.

Therefore, officials expect the bridge to enhance life quality for residents and visitors alike. Additionally, the bridge supports Dubai Harbour’s transformation into a world-class waterfront hub.

Overall, the Dubai Harbour Bridge highlights Dubai’s urban planning, connectivity, and waterfront development. As a result, it positions Dubai as a leading maritime and tourism destination, while supporting economic growth.
