ENOC and Dubai Municipality Agree to Explore Turning Used Cooking Oil Into Biodiesel

Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) Group and Dubai Municipality have signed an agreement to explore collecting used cooking oil across Dubai and converting it into biodiesel.

Under the agreement, the two sides will look at developing a system to gather used cooking oil from restaurants, businesses and households, the state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday. The oil would be processed into biodiesel at ENOC’s plant in Jebel Ali.

Dubai Municipality will coordinate and oversee collection to prevent improper disposal. ENOC will contribute its fuel production and supply expertise.

Financial terms and a timeline were not disclosed.

The agreement was signed at the WETEX 2026 exhibition in Dubai by Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi, Deputy Managing Director of Commercial and Retail at ENOC Group, and Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Chief Executive Officer of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Group Chief Executive Officer of ENOC Group, attended the signing.

“Turning waste into fuel can help address both priorities, strengthening local production capabilities while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy,” Al Falasi said.

ENOC introduced its Biodiesel5 fuel to the UAE market in 2017 and has since expanded its biodiesel offering to transport, logistics and construction customers.

The initiative is aligned with the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031, according to WAM.
