Iraq moves forward with the Ratawi field redevelopment as TotalEnergies awards two contracts to Wood. These contracts support the country’s efforts to grow energy production and improve electricity supply. The Ratawi field redevelopment forms a key part of the wider Gas Growth Integrated Project.
To begin with, Wood secured two new framework agreements worth $11 million. These contracts include both engineering and procurement services. In particular, they support the Associated Gas Upstream Project, which plays a major role in the Gas Growth Integrated Project. As a result, Iraq plans to boost energy output by upgrading current facilities through the Ratawi field redevelopment.
Each contract runs for three years and focuses on improving oil and gas infrastructure. Through the Ratawi field redevelopment, Wood aims to raise energy capacity to 120,000 barrels of oil per day. This production goal belongs to the project’s first development phase. Furthermore, the contracts help modernize existing systems and remove production bottlenecks.
In recent years, Wood expanded its presence in Iraq’s energy sector. Since becoming involved in the redevelopment of the Ratawi oil site, the company has hosted six recruitment days. These events led to the hiring of 70 Iraqis across various roles, including safety, logistics, welding, electrical, and construction.
Meanwhile, teams based in Basra and the United Arab Emirates will carry out the work. As operations grow under the Ratawi field redevelopment, more jobs will become available. Currently, Wood employs over 4,000 people in the Middle East. Moreover, the company added 500 new staff members last year alone.
In addition to these contracts, Wood continues to deliver engineering design, procurement, and commissioning services. These services support the first phase of the Associated Gas Upstream Project. Thanks to its experience in brownfield facility upgrades, Wood delivers reliable and safe solutions.
Clearly, the Ratawi field redevelopment helps Iraq not only meet energy demands but also create job opportunities. At the same time, it strengthens the country’s position in the regional energy market. Most importantly, the project promises long-term economic and social benefits for Iraq.
In conclusion, this collaboration with Wood marks another major milestone in Iraq’s energy strategy. With international support and local involvement, the country moves closer to energy independence.
