Iraq is taking significant steps to improve its energy production capacity. The country has entered into two major agreements with Siemens and General Electric (GE). These deals will increase Iraq’s electricity production by 34,000 megawatts (MW). The partnership with Siemens will add 10,000 MW, while GE’s agreement will provide 24,000 MW.
The Ministry of Electricity focuses on enhancing the national grid and reducing dependence on foreign energy sources. Iraq’s electricity minister, Ziyad Ali Fadel, emphasized the importance of these deals. They are part of Iraq’s broader strategy to improve its energy infrastructure and increase domestic power generation.
The deal with Siemens includes the construction of new power plants and the enhancement of existing ones. Siemens will also focus on improving the transmission and distribution networks. In addition, they will help Iraq make better use of gas turbines to generate more electricity. This is expected to improve efficiency and meet the growing demand for power.
The deal with GE involves upgrading current power plants and building new facilities. GE’s work will be carried out in three stages over four years. The first stage will focus on increasing the efficiency of existing power plants. By using advanced technology, GE will improve output without requiring additional fuel.
Both deals are essential for Iraq’s energy future. They will provide reliable power, reduce energy imports, and create jobs. Over time, these improvements will also help boost Iraq’s economic development and stability.
