On Thursday, a rocket struck a storage tank at the field. As a result, Dana Gas, the joint operator, shut down production, which caused widespread power outages. Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators, and no group has claimed responsibility.
This attack represented the most severe incident since July, when a series of drone strikes reduced oilfield output by approximately 150,000 barrels per day. Therefore, analysts emphasize the ongoing vulnerability of northern Iraq’s energy infrastructure to regional security threats.
