Kuwait Launches Oil Sector Digital Transformation to Boost Efficiency

Kuwait has officially launched a comprehensive oil digital transformation, aiming to enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and profitability. The initiative includes 24 initial digital projects, with plans to expand in the future.

The launch event took place at Kuwait National Petroleum Company headquarters in Ahmadi on Tuesday. In addition to CEO Wadha Al-Khatib, representatives from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, its subsidiaries, and Boston Consulting Group attended the event. BCG is responsible for implementing the program.

Khaloud Al-Mutairi, KNPC Executive Vice President for Support Services and head of the digital transformation steering committee, explained that the program reflects years of coordination and tough decision-making across the sector. She noted that it introduces a business culture focused on data, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, Al-Mutairi said the initiative directly supports KPC’s 2024 strategic objectives and contributes to Kuwait Vision 2035. By strengthening sector capabilities, it aims to create added value and support the national economy. She also acknowledged the trust of KPC and subsidiaries while highlighting BCG’s technical expertise.

During the event, KNPC’s Projects 2 and IT departments, together with BCG, delivered detailed presentations. They outlined the roadmap for implementing the digital strategy and turning strategic goals into actionable projects. This step ensures that the vision aligns with operational realities.

Moreover, Kuwait’s Oil Ministry launched six targeted digital projects under the “Masar” initiative on Monday. These projects include performance management, financial processes, employee training, digital services, technical monitoring, and legal workflow systems.

Oil Minister Tareq Al-Roumi emphasized that the projects improve transparency, coordination, and efficiency across government institutions. He added that the systems link strategic planning to practical implementation, enhancing governance frameworks.

Analysts suggest that the oil digital transformation will modernize Kuwait’s oil sector, reduce operational bottlenecks, and attract more investment. Additionally, AI and data-driven processes could improve decision-making across upstream and downstream operations.

Furthermore, experts predict that as KNPC and KPC expand these initiatives, the sector could see long-term gains in productivity, cost management, and global competitiveness. The program sets a regional benchmark for digital innovation in energy.

Finally, the transformation reinforces Kuwait’s position as a regional energy hub while supporting broader economic diversification under Kuwait Vision 2035. Officials stated that continued collaboration with private partners will be critical for long-term success.
