Kuwait Strengthens Border Security with Major Diesel Smuggling Operation Bust

Kuwaiti authorities successfully dismantled a diesel smuggling operation, seizing a farm in Abdali and arresting nine suspects. This diesel smuggling operation highlights the government’s determination to protect national resources and secure the economy.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah directly supervised the operation. Moreover, Major General Hamed Manahi Al-Dawas, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs, accompanied him. The General Department of Criminal Investigations, through the Jahra Governorate Investigations Department, executed the raid after receiving precise intelligence.

Authorities confirmed that criminals stored diesel containers at the Abdali farm. Consequently, officers secured a search warrant and removed 33 diesel containers, pumps, and machinery used to transfer fuel. Additionally, officials arrested nine suspects, including a Kuwaiti citizen coordinating the operation. The farm owner tried to flee and was apprehended at the Al-Nuwaiseeb border crossing. Authorities also confiscated receipts for large overseas money transfers linked to the smuggling network.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that it will continue reclaiming land exploited for illegal activities and prosecute all offenders. Furthermore, officials urged citizens to report suspicious activities to prevent future crimes targeting Kuwait’s energy resources.

Following the operation, Sheikh Fahad visited the General Directorate of Land Border Security to review security measures. He observed the newly installed border safeguarding system, which enhances monitoring and operational readiness. At the Buhaith Border Center, Major General Mujbel bin Shawq briefed him on security infrastructure improvements and ongoing protocols.

Sheikh Fahad praised border personnel for their dedication and emphasized using advanced technology and continuous training to secure Kuwait’s borders. He also confirmed that authorities will maintain proactive measures to deter diesel smuggling operations.

Security experts noted that dismantling diesel smuggling operations protects Kuwait’s energy sector and deters organized criminal networks. Moreover, they explained these operations reinforce investor confidence in Kuwait’s economic stability. Authorities plan to expand intelligence-led operations and surveillance to counter similar threats across the country.
