M42 Launches Ossi AI Clinical Platform With Microsoft at Seven Facilities in UAE and Bahrain

Abu Dhabi health group M42 has launched Ossi, an artificial intelligence platform that drafts clinical notes and summarizes patient records, at seven of its facilities in the UAE and Bahrain.

The platform runs on Microsoft Azure cloud and AI infrastructure. M42 announced it at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The seven facilities are Amana UAE, Amana Bahrain, Healthpoint, HealthPlus, Mubadala Health Dubai, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Hospital and Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi.

Ossi starts with four agents. An ambient scribe agent transcribes consultations and prepares draft notes for clinician review. A health record agent retrieves and summarizes information from electronic medical records.

A clinical question-and-answer agent helps doctors find clinical information and prepare educational material for patients. A coding agent suggests medical codes for review by billing teams.

M42 said the platform can work with different large language models and connects to existing medical record systems through the HL7 and FHIR data standards or custom interfaces.

The system could let doctors spend up to 60% more time with patients, The National reported.

“If a patient is going to see an oncology doctor, usually the doctor spends three to four hours before the patient visit to review the file. With Ossi and AI, this can be reduced to less than 10 to 15 minutes,” Kareem Shahin, chief executive of M42’s Digital Health Solutions Platform and group chief digital officer, told the newspaper.

Shahin said the platform works in Arabic and English. He said M42 plans to use its partnership with Microsoft to offer Ossi to clients in other countries.

Dimitris Moulavasilis, group chief executive officer of M42, called the launch a defining moment in the company’s plans to transform healthcare.

“Ossi represents an important milestone in our ongoing collaboration with M42,” said Elena Bonfiglioli, global business leader and vice president for healthcare, pharma and life sciences at Microsoft.
