The MICE Summit in Riyadh drew top regional and international event operators to focus on community building and talent development. The event showcased the growing importance of professional training in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions sector.
Hosted by the Saudi Conventions and Exhibitions General Authority, the summit brought together companies with combined global revenues exceeding $9 billion. Attendees explored new opportunities, partnerships, and initiatives aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s events industry.
Debbie Kristiansen, senior vice president at Oak View Group Middle East, highlighted the company’s regional expansion and the opening of its first Riyadh office. She noted the summit has grown significantly, offering networking opportunities and connections with local and international peers.
Oak View operates more than 500 venues globally. The Riyadh office will serve as a hub for promoting skill development among young Saudi nationals. Kristiansen emphasized that the company aims to surpass the platinum Saudization target to create a sustainable workforce and long-term impact.
Youth engagement remains central to Oak View’s strategy. Kristiansen said mentoring future venue leaders ensures the development of a skilled workforce and benefits the broader community. She praised Saudi Arabia’s rapid growth and identified the Kingdom as an ideal location for further investment.
On the sidelines, Abdullah Al-Hazzaa, CEO of Al Diriyah Solution, signed an agreement with the Saudi Exhibition and Conferences Association. The agreement will support event companies in public and private sectors. Al-Hazzaa outlined community-building initiatives and free soft skills programs for university students.
Mahmoud Alawadi, CEO of Thalath International Co., discussed upcoming projects including the International Exhibition for the Nonprofit Sector in May. This event will unite over 15 sectors, including charitable foundations and financial institutions. Alawadi also highlighted the Saudi International Exhibition for Animal Protection in Al-Qassim.
The summit emphasized collaboration, innovation, and social responsibility. Leaders noted that these initiatives will boost economic growth and improve quality of life in local communities. Alawadi added that the nonprofit exhibition will expand internationally, hosting its first edition in Washington, DC in 2026.
Overall, the MICE Summit reinforced Saudi Arabia’s position as a hub for international events. The focus on community building, professional development, and partnerships is set to shape the sector’s future.
