Muscat Leads Oman’s Digital Transformation with 24 Fully Digitized Services

Muscat – The Muscat Governorate has successfully digitized 24 essential municipal services, marking a significant milestone in Oman’s digital transformation journey. This achievement has earned Muscat a spot in the Advanced Tier of the Government Digital Transformation Program, Tahawul, placing it among the top four entities out of 49 government organizations evaluated for digital progress.

The digitization of these services has made it easier for residents and businesses to interact with government departments. Some of the key services fully digitized in 2024 include building permit issuance, security deposit refunds, street lighting requests, and burial services. Other services now available online include the registration and cancellation of lease agreements, event hosting requests, auditing of modern building systems, and the renewal of building permits.

The digital shift eliminates the need for physical visits, allowing citizens to complete transactions smoothly and efficiently from anywhere. This transition aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to use technology to enhance governance and public service delivery.

Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, celebrated the success as a step forward in the governorate’s digital evolution. “This accomplishment supports our commitment to efficient governance through technology,” he said. “We aim to set a benchmark for digital service delivery in Oman, ensuring a seamless experience for all beneficiaries.”

Muscat Municipality, which spearheaded the digital transformation, continues to optimize these services for ease of use. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, emphasized that providing online government services is essential in today’s digital age. He noted that the digitization effort goes beyond offering services and includes workforce training and building a digital work culture to ensure a complete experience for users.

With this recognition, Muscat is setting new standards for digital governance in Oman, paving the way for smarter, more efficient municipal services.
