Oman to Launch Business Caller ID to Strengthen Telecom Trust

Oman will soon launch a business caller ID in Oman, announced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) during its 2024 media briefing. This new digital service aims to fight fraudulent calls and strengthen trust in business communications across the country.

The feature helps users easily recognize verified businesses. By protecting people from scams and boosting confidence in digital services, it supports the country’s vision for a smarter and safer digital environment. Through this step, Oman continues advancing its digital transformation journey.

During the event, TRA also highlighted strong growth in the telecom sector. Mobile subscriptions rose by 7%, reaching 7.5 million users. IoT connections jumped by 72%, and fixed broadband services grew by 2%. Telecom providers built 545 new 5G stations during 2024, creating a solid foundation for digital advancements like the caller ID verification service.

TRA CEO Eng. Omar Hamdan Al Ismaili explained that teams successfully upgraded 6,500 stations from 3G to 4G and 5 G. These upgrades ensure broader connectivity and help secure the delivery of services such as the business caller ID in Oman, reaching users efficiently across all regions.

Meanwhile, Oman’s broadband network continues to expand. Fixed broadband now covers 90% of homes nationwide. Every government school has internet access, and 97% use high-speed broadband. This robust infrastructure enables innovative services to succeed and grow.

The telecom sector also reported solid financial results. Revenues rose by 4% to RO 920 million, while postal services earned RO 27.2 million, up 3%. Oman now boasts 24 licensed telecom providers and 399 authorized service companies, showing a vibrant digital market ready for new technologies like the business caller ID in Oman.

The postal sector also showed growth. Licensed firms rose by 21%, with 80% classified as small and medium enterprises (SMEs). International shipments increased by 60%, reaching 3.2 million packages. The telecom workforce achieved a 93% Omanization rate, while postal services reached 71%, reflecting efforts to empower local talent.

Globally, Oman climbed 26 places to rank 22nd in the ICT Infrastructure Index. The launch of the business caller ID in Oman marks another step in building a secure, trusted, and transparent digital economy for businesses and users alike.
