Qatar Airways Alerts Travellers to Georgia’s Mandatory Insurance Requirement

Qatar Airways has warned travellers that Georgia now requires mandatory insurance for all visitors. The key phrase, mandatory insurance, highlights the new regulation affecting international travellers.

The airline said that under Georgia’s Law “On Tourism,” effective January 1, 2026, every tourist must obtain valid health and accident insurance. Authorities exclude only certain categories.

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that policies must provide coverage of at least 30,000 Georgian Lari, or roughly QR 40,000. Travellers can present policies in physical or electronic form. Policies must be in Georgian or English.

Tourists must maintain insurance for the full duration of their stay. Policies should clearly show the parties involved, covered territory, insured risks, start and expiry dates, insurance sum, and premiums.

Qatar Airways urged passengers to confirm that their coverage meets all Georgian legal requirements. The airline encouraged travellers to arrange insurance before departure to avoid delays or entry issues.

Authorities exempt holders of diplomatic passports or visas from mandatory insurance. They also exclude travellers entering under international treaties and drivers transporting passengers or goods across borders.

Officials said Georgia introduced the rule to protect visitors and strengthen tourism safety standards. Mandatory insurance ensures tourists access medical care during emergencies or accidents.

Experts advised travellers to verify coverage details with insurance providers. They recommended checking both the minimum coverage limit and documentation format.

Qatar Airways and travel agencies have updated booking systems and travel guidance to reflect the rule. Staff now provide clear instructions on selecting valid insurance policies.

Tourists should carry proof of coverage during their stay. Officials and airline personnel may check documents upon arrival.

Mandatory insurance reinforces Georgia’s commitment to responsible tourism and visitor safety. Travellers must secure coverage promptly to comply with regulations.

The new regulation strengthens both safety and legal compliance. Passengers who confirm insurance before departure will avoid issues at entry.
