Qatar Airways Expands African Network With New Routes, Increased Frequencies, and Restored Destinations in 2026

Qatar Airways is expanding its African network through new routes, higher frequencies, and the resumption of suspended services. The move is part of its strategy to rebuild a global network of more than 160 destinations.

The airline will restart several African routes in mid-2026. From June 16, 2026, it will operate four weekly flights to Seychelles International Airport. It will also run two weekly flights to Kigali International Airport. In addition, daily flights to Marrakesh Menara Airport will resume on July 1, 2026.

These resumptions aim to restore key travel links between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. They also support rising demand for tourism and business travel. As a result, passengers will have more flexible connections through Doha.

At the same time, the airline is increasing frequencies on several routes. Flights to Borg El Arab Airport will rise from three to seven weekly services. Cairo International Airport will increase from 28 to 35 weekly flights. Cape Town International Airport will grow from seven to ten weekly flights.

In East and Southern Africa, more capacity is also planned. Julius Nyerere International Airport will increase from three to seven weekly flights. The Lusaka–Harare route linking Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport will also rise to seven weekly flights. The Maputo–Durban route connecting Maputo International Airport and King Shaka International Airport will also increase to seven weekly flights.

Qatar Airways will launch a new route to Port Sudan International Airport on July 2, 2026. It will operate three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight QR1319 will depart Doha at 09:00 and arrive in Port Sudan at 11:00. The return flight QR1320 will depart at 12:25 and arrive in Doha at 16:20.

This new route will improve connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. It will also support passengers connecting through Doha from markets such as Pakistan and Oman.

Overall, the expansion strengthens Qatar Airways’ position in African aviation. It also reflects growing demand for international travel and stronger trade and tourism links across the region.
