Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan al-Thani, attended the inauguration of the BMC armoured vehicles and heavy engines factory in Ankara, Turkiye. Moreover, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally patronized the event, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. Barzan Holdings represents Qatar’s 49.9% stake in the factory, which forms part of a strategic defence partnership.
The joint venture aims to enhance military capabilities and advance defence technologies. Specifically, the facility will produce the first Altay tank, marking a major milestone for defence industries in Qatar and Turkiye. This tank introduces a significant leap in design and armoured performance. Additionally, Sheikh Saud attended the ceremony with senior officers from the Qatari Armed Forces, demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to strengthening regional defence cooperation.
Officials explained that the factory will act as a hub for knowledge transfer and industrial development. Engineers and specialists from both nations will collaborate on production, research, and advanced military systems.
