Qatar’s Energy Minister Meets Iran’s Acting Petroleum Minister in Doha

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, met Hamid Bovard, Iran’s Acting Minister of Petroleum, in Doha on Monday, the Qatar News Agency reported.

The talks covered energy relations and cooperation between Qatar and Iran, the agency said. It did not report any agreements.

Al-Kaabi is also president and chief executive of state-owned QatarEnergy.

The meeting comes seven months after Iranian attacks on Ras Laffan Industrial City wiped out about 17% of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas export capacity, or about 12.8 million tonnes a year. Al-Kaabi told Reuters in March that repairs could take three to five years.

Qatar and Iran share the world’s largest natural gas field, known as the North Field in Qatar and South Pars in Iran.
