Qatar, Japan Strengthen Strategic Partnership Across Key Sectors

Qatar and Japan have reinforced their strategic partnership through the third bilateral Strategic Dialogue held in Doha. The talks highlighted opportunities to expand co-operation across trade, economy, investment, security, education, healthcare, science, technology, tourism, and infrastructure.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means. They also conducted a thorough review of regional and global developments.

During separate bilateral meetings, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance collaboration and boost the growing relationship between their nations. They emphasised that commercial, economic, and investment interests form the backbone of Qatar-Japan ties. Sheikh Mohammed praised Japanese companies for their key contributions to Qatar’s development projects.

The third strategic dialogue also addressed energy security, technology innovation, and stable trade. Both sides agreed that strengthening cooperation in advanced industries would support economic growth and diversification in their countries. Additionally, they focused on enhancing maritime security and freedom of navigation in line with shared regional interests.

Key working groups were tasked with advancing initiatives throughout 2026. Their outcomes will feed into the fourth Qatar-Japan Strategic Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Tokyo next year. Both countries underscored the importance of multilateral engagement to maintain regional stability and support lasting peace.

The ministers exchanged perspectives on global issues, including situations in the Middle East, Israel-Palestine, Iran, Syria, and East Asia. They highlighted diplomacy and dialogue as essential tools for addressing conflicts and promoting international cooperation. The dialogue further strengthened trust, respect, and friendship between the two nations.

In a joint statement following the dialogue, both countries reiterated their commitment to deeper collaboration. They highlighted successes since the second strategic dialogue in 2023 and welcomed the broader Strategic Partnership announced that same year. Officials noted that trade, investment, and technological cooperation remain vital for future economic resilience.

Experts say the dialogue reflects Qatar and Japan’s long-term vision for sustainable growth. They also noted that continued engagement could set a regional model for strategic partnerships between Gulf and East Asian nations.
