Qatar continues to lead peacebuilding efforts in the region by advancing Qatar support for Somalia. At the OIC Contact Group meeting held in Doha, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi reaffirmed this commitment. The event highlighted Qatar’s long-term vision and active diplomacy to help Somalia achieve peace, unity, and development.
The meeting brought together global leaders to coordinate direct assistance to Somalia. According to Al Muraikhi, Somalia still faces complex threats to its security, economy, and national unity. Therefore, he called for global coordination aligned with Somali-led goals. This reflects how Qatar support for Somalia focuses on sovereignty, partnership, and national ownership.
Al Muraikhi emphasized that respect for Somalia’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable. He explained that any foreign assistance must follow the priorities set by Somalia itself. In addition, he called for inclusive dialogue involving federal and regional leaders, civil society, women, and youth. He believes national reconciliation will only succeed with strong participation and trust.
Moreover, political reform remains central to Qatar’s approach. Al Muraikhi stressed that national elections, constitutional updates, and transparent institutions are vital for stability. All reforms should include broad representation to secure lasting peace. These principles form the backbone of Qatar support for Somalia through political and institutional development.
Additionally, Al Muraikhi praised the role of the Quintet, comprising Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, and the US, in supporting Somalia’s recovery. Their joint work with Somali authorities has supported better security coordination and stronger government services. This ongoing collaboration shows how Doha’s role remains active on all fronts.
Security, however, remains fragile. Al Muraikhi noted that Somalia still faces terrorist threats and internal tensions. He called for stronger Somali security forces, better agency cooperation, and long-term planning. Once again, he linked these efforts to Qatar support for Somalia, highlighting both military and community-level strategies.
Humanitarian needs are also growing. Al Muraikhi urged a shift toward development-linked solutions that reduce reliance on emergency aid.
