QatarEnergy has signed two long-term agreements to buy up to 4 million tons per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Cheniere Energy’s plants on the US Gulf Coast, the Qatar News Agency reported on Thursday.
The deals cover 2 mtpa each from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana and its Corpus Christi plant in Texas, Cheniere said.

QatarEnergy said deliveries are expected to start in 2031 and run through 2054. Cheniere said deliveries would begin in the early 2030s.
The LNG will be sold on a free-on-board basis, with QatarEnergy taking delivery at the US plants. The price is indexed to the US Henry Hub gas benchmark plus a fixed fee, Cheniere said.
One mtpa of the Sabine Pass volume depends on a positive final investment decision on the first phase of Cheniere’s Sabine Pass expansion project.
That phase is expected to include a single production unit, Train 7, with capacity of more than 6 mtpa. Bechtel Energy signed the engineering, procurement and construction contract for it in May 2026.
The agreements were signed by Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and chief executive of QatarEnergy, and Jack Fusco, chairman, president and chief executive of Cheniere.
“This major long-term purchase will expand and diversify our global LNG portfolio and advance our ability to meet the evolving requirements of the market,” Al Kaabi said. He said the volumes would complement QatarEnergy’s existing LNG supplies and its trading portfolio.
Fusco called the deals “pivotal, multi-decade agreements” that represent a major long-term commercial commitment.
Cheniere has about 56 mtpa of LNG production capacity in operation and about 5 mtpa under construction, the company said.
