Right from the start, the Founders Meetup created fresh momentum for Qatar’s startup and venture capital ecosystem. SHIFT Group, in partnership with Qatar Development Bank, hosted the event in Doha. The Founders Meetup brought together startup founders, investors, and key innovation leaders from across the MENA region.
Remarkably, organizers focused on building strong relationships among early-stage businesses and capital partners. As a result, startups gained a platform to pitch their ideas to serious investors. The event welcomed 17 startups from sectors like fintech, logistics, food tech, and health tech. All companies ranged from pre-seed to seed stages.
During the opening remarks, SHIFT Group’s CEO, Joy Alvarez, highlighted the importance of partnership. She stressed that The Founders Meetup aims to connect founders with the right investors. Additionally, she emphasized how collaboration can fast-track innovation in the region.
Following the opening, startup representatives pitched ideas in two structured sessions. Between the sessions, a networking break gave founders time to form direct links with investors. Attendees also scanned QR codes to instantly connect with startups of interest.
After the pitch rounds, a dinner allowed further discussion between stakeholders. The Founders Meetup closed on a high note with promises of follow-ups and ongoing engagement. SHIFT Group’s Managing Partner, Abdulrahman Totonji, guided the initiative from concept to execution.
Furthermore, under his leadership, SHIFT continues to build platforms that empower both founders and investors. According to Totonji, the Founders Meetup marks another step toward regional growth and economic diversification.
Meanwhile, Qatar Development Bank reaffirmed its role in driving innovation. Executive Director Mohammed Al-Emadi praised the event and highlighted the bank’s strategic investments in venture capital. He confirmed QDB’s plans to increase support for startups through more similar initiatives.
The Founders Meetup also offered long-term value. It created real-time connections, introduced new ideas, and opened new funding channels. With each pitch, founders gained visibility and investor interest. With each meeting, investors explored new opportunities across sectors.
Events like The Founders Meetup continue to strengthen Qatar’s position as a regional startup hub. They also promote the venture capital ecosystem in the wider MENA region.
As more collaborations emerge, The Founders Meetup will likely inspire more local and regional events. These events will support the growth of early-stage businesses and encourage long-term investment.
