Turkey Saudi Renewables Deal Expands at Cop31

Turkey Saudi Renewables cooperation will expand at the Cop31 UN climate summit in Antalya this November. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power will sign the second phase of a 5-gigawatt renewable energy project, Acwa chairman Mohammad Abunayyan said.

The new phase will include solar, wind, and energy storage. Moreover, Abunayyan said these projects will complement the first phase. That phase included two solar power plants totaling 2GW in central Anatolia. The companies completed these plants through a $2 billion agreement earlier this month.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that the initiative supports a broader plan to expand renewable energy in Turkey. In addition, the Sivas and TaÅŸeli solar projects will provide electricity to 2.1 million households. Turkey also expects manufacturers to reach a 50 percent localization rate for components used in these plants.

Furthermore, Abunayyan said teams are actively adding storage solutions to the initial 2GW solar projects. By combining storage with renewable generation, they will boost efficiency and stabilize the grid. This approach will ensure reliable electricity to meet growing demand.

Turkey has ambitious clean energy targets. Specifically, the government plans to reach 120GW of installed solar and wind capacity by 2035. Minister Bayraktar added that Turkey must build 8 to 10GW of solar and wind projects annually to meet this goal.

The Acwa Power cooperation marks a major step toward Turkey’s renewable energy goals. Additionally, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz estimated Acwa’s investments could reach $5 billion. Consequently, this partnership strengthens economic ties between Turkey and Saudi Arabia while promoting sustainability.

The projects will also create jobs and develop technology in Turkey. By promoting local manufacturing and component production, Turkey will increase domestic expertise in solar and wind sectors.

Turkey Saudi Renewables projects will also showcase regional collaboration on clean energy. As the countries launch more renewable projects, they demonstrate commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainability.

Finally, the new agreements at Cop31 will accelerate renewable energy deployment, improve grid stability, and strengthen strategic cooperation between Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Turkey Saudi Renewables collaboration will play a leading role in the region’s energy transition.
