UAE EV Charging Points Expand to Meet Growing Demand

The UAE continues to strengthen its electric vehicle network as UAE EV charging points now exceed 1,270 across Dubai. This growing infrastructure serves more than 40,600 EVs and supports the nation’s clean energy goals. Moreover, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) plays a central role in this rapid expansion.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, confirmed that private sector investment is vital. Therefore, Dewa launched a licensing system for developing and operating EV charging stations across the emirate. This initiative also aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

According to Dewa’s latest data, Dubai’s network includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Furthermore, many of these points are located in collaboration with public and private sector partners. This variety ensures that drivers can charge vehicles conveniently in multiple locations across the city.

To further boost the network, Dewa signed an agreement with Parkin. Through this deal, new charging stations will be installed in prime areas managed by Parkin. Consequently, EV drivers will benefit from easier access and an enhanced charging experience.

Earlier this year, Dewa operated around 740 charging points in Dubai. Since then, expansion efforts have accelerated to meet rising demand. The network is expected to reach 1,000 charging stations by the end of the year, further supporting the adoption of electric mobility.

Dewa’s EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014, has become a model for sustainable transport infrastructure. Additionally, the program encourages EV adoption by providing dependable and easily accessible charging facilities across Dubai.

The UAE’s long-term vision includes increasing the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50 percent of all cars by 2050. This goal highlights the nation’s commitment to reducing emissions and improving air quality. As more residents and businesses adopt electric vehicles, the demand for UAE EV will continue to grow.

By expanding the charging network, Dubai not only supports environmental sustainability but also positions itself as a global leader in clean transportation. The combination of government initiatives, private sector partnerships, and advanced technology ensures steady progress toward a greener future.
