UAE Introduces New Dhs100 Polymer Banknote Ahead of Eid Al Fitr

The UAE has unveiled a new Dhs100 banknote just in time for Eid Al Fitr celebrations. The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) introduced this polymer currency note, which combines advanced security features with a modern design. This move is part of the CBUAE’s ongoing effort to improve the country’s currency system.

The new Dhs100 note features a combination of aesthetic and functional enhancements. The design highlights the UAE’s rapid growth and success, incorporating symbols of the nation’s progress. Cultural and developmental imagery reflects the UAE’s journey toward becoming a global economic and commercial powerhouse.

On the front of the note, there is an illustration of the Um Al Quwain National Fort, a symbol of the UAE’s rich history. On the reverse, the note showcases the Port of Fujairah, a major port, and the Etihad Rail, a crucial railway network linking the seven emirates and extending to other Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The polymer material used for the note ensures durability, making it last longer than traditional paper currency. This makes it a more sustainable option for circulation. Additionally, the note includes Braille symbols, helping blind and visually impaired users identify its value easily.

One of the most important aspects of this new banknote is its advanced security features. These include SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS, which are designed to prevent counterfeiting. These technologies will enhance the note’s authenticity and make it more secure in circulation.

The new Dhs100 note will circulate alongside the existing currency starting March 24, 2025. Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their machines to ensure both the new polymer note and the traditional notes can be accepted without issue.

Khaled Mohamed Balama, the governor of the CBUAE, expressed pride in the new currency, stating that it reflects the country’s ambitions for future progress while honoring its history. He also emphasized that the new note was launched in alignment with the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and its long-term financial goals.
