The United Arab Emirates has temporarily suspended visa issuance for nationals of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. The measure aims to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus.
The decision took effect on June 6, 2026. UAE authorities responsible for emergency management and immigration announced the measure jointly.
Under the new rules, citizens of the three affected countries cannot obtain UAE visas during the suspension period. The restriction also applies to travelers arriving directly from those countries.
Furthermore, the measure covers travelers who transit through other destinations before reaching the UAE. Authorities said recent travel history will determine eligibility.
However, some travelers may still enter the UAE. They must remain outside the affected countries for more than 21 consecutive days before traveling.
In addition, these travelers must provide documents proving they have not visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan during that period.
Despite the visa suspension, cargo operations will continue normally. Trade activities between the UAE and the three countries remain unaffected.
Authorities also confirmed that international transit flights will continue operating. Therefore, airlines can maintain cargo and passenger connections through existing routes.
Meanwhile, officials advised affected travelers to contact their airlines and travel providers. They should arrange alternative routes that do not require UAE entry or transit.
The visa suspension will remain in effect until further notice. Authorities will continue reviewing the public health situation and monitoring developments.
The UAE introduced the measure because of growing concerns about Ebola outbreaks in parts of East and Central Africa. Health officials continue monitoring the situation closely.
Ebola causes severe viral hemorrhagic fever and can spread rapidly during outbreaks. As a result, governments often introduce preventive measures to limit transmission and protect public health.
