Dubai Launches Future Regulations Team Drawing on 25 Government Entities to Update Laws for Emerging Sectors

Dubai has formed a Future Regulations Team made up of representatives from 25 government entities to prepare the emirate’s laws for new technologies and emerging sectors, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Thursday.

The team was set up under the supervision of Dubai Future Foundation and the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, attended the launch.

It will analyze existing legislative barriers, set development priorities by sector and draft recommendations and regulatory solutions for government entities, according to WAM.

Sheikh Hamdan said legislation “must evolve beyond its traditional role of regulating sectors to become a key driver of economic growth.”

Team members will take part in a capacity-building program with University College London. It will include workshops, sessions with experts and international visits to study legislative practice abroad.

The participating entities will also work on a shared framework for testing, adopting and implementing legislation on a wider scale, WAM said.

The launch was attended by Omar Sultan Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, Secretary General of the Supreme Legislation Committee; and Khalfan Belhoul, chief executive officer of Dubai Future Foundation.

WAM did not say which 25 entities are represented or when the team will issue its first recommendations.
