The Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan (APIKUR) welcomed the intensified Iraq oil exports talks between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Government of Iraq (GoI). These discussions aim to restart oil exports through the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline, a critical route for regional energy revenues.
During a high-level meeting, International Oil Companies (IOCs), including APIKUR members, joined representatives from both governments. The talks highlighted the shared urgency to resume oil flows and stabilize the energy sector. APIKUR emphasized the importance of agreements that protect companies’ rights and ensure transparent operations.
APIKUR stated that its member companies are ready to resume exports immediately once clear and binding agreements are signed. These agreements must guarantee payment certainty for future exports, respecting existing legal contracts. Moreover, each company seeks individual arrangements to settle outstanding arrears fairly and efficiently.
Transparency remains a top priority for APIKUR. The group stressed the need for prompt payments, whether in cash or through in-kind transfers of crude oil entitlements. This approach aims to rebuild trust among stakeholders and maintain smooth operations in the Kurdistan Region’s oil sector.
The ongoing Iraq oil exports talks mark a critical step towards resolving long-standing disputes. Both the KRG and GoI appear committed to finding solutions that benefit all parties. For international companies, a clear framework for payments and arrears settlement will encourage investment and operational stability.
APIKUR’s support reflects the oil industry’s readiness to revive production and exports swiftly. The association believes that a balanced agreement can bring much-needed revenues to both governments while supporting energy market stability. The return of oil exports through the pipeline will also help strengthen regional economic ties.
As discussions continue, industry observers remain optimistic about a breakthrough. The Kurdistan Region’s oil sector stands to benefit greatly from resumed exports, creating growth opportunities for companies and local communities alike.
