Oman Fuel Storage Expansion Boosts Strategic Energy Reserves

Oman continues to strengthen its energy security through major fuel infrastructure investments. These efforts focus on expanding Oman fuel storage capacity across key regions. OQ, the country’s integrated energy group, leads this development with strong government backing.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced that OQ invested more than $328 million in two new storage facilities. These projects are designed to ensure steady fuel supply during emergencies and growing domestic needs, significantly boosting Oman’s fuel storage capacity.

The first project is in progress in Musandam Governorate. Once finished, it will store 14,536 cubic meters of fuel. This facility meets rising demand for gasoline and aviation fuel. It also strengthens the country’s fuel reserves against supply disruptions caused by natural events, enhancing Oman’s fuel storage strength.

In addition, the second project started in Dhofar Governorate. This facility will store 110,000 cubic meters of key fuel types. The goal is to protect local fuel supply chains and prepare for any disruptions, contributing to overall Oman fuel storage capacity growth.

Together, these hubs will expand Oman fuel storage capacity significantly. They will operate alongside existing facilities that serve the country’s refined fuel needs.

One major facility, the Al Jifnain terminal near Muscat, already handles more than 70 percent of Oman’s fuel consumption. It links directly to OQ’s refineries in Muscat and Suhar. It also connects to Muscat International Airport via dedicated pipelines, which supports the nation’s fuel storage network.

Besides these, Oman operates the Ras Markaz Crude Oil Terminal near Duqm. This facility plays a key role in crude oil storage and exports. It links to Duqm Refinery through an 80-kilometer pipeline.

The terminal processed 491 vessels and handled over 950 million barrels of crude oil. It also exported 17 million metric tonnes of refined products during that period.

To strengthen Oman fuel storage capacity further, OTTCO signed a partnership with Royal Vopak. This deal will help transform Duqm into a global storage and export hub.

OTTCO also plans to support green energy solutions. These include infrastructure for handling and exporting green ammonia.

Oman fuel storage capacity continues to grow through government and private sector collaboration. These strategic moves improve national energy resilience and boost the country’s role in global logistics.
