Dukhan solar plant will reshape Qatar’s renewable energy landscape as QatarEnergy and Samsung C&T signed a landmark agreement in Doha. The partners will build a massive solar power facility west of the capital, advancing the nation’s clean energy goals.
QatarEnergy announced the deal at its headquarters during a ceremony attended by government and corporate leaders. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy’s CEO, signed the agreement with Sechul Oh, President and CEO of Samsung C&T. Senior officials from Kahramaa also joined the event, highlighting its national importance.
The Dukhan solar plant will deliver 2,000 megawatts of power by mid-2029, doubling Qatar’s existing solar output. Developers will complete construction in two phases, with the first 1,000 megawatts set to connect to the grid by late 2028. The project reflects Qatar’s commitment to balance development with environmental protection.
Officials emphasized that the new plant aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s sustainability strategy. They explained that renewable projects like Dukhan support plans to generate over 4,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2030. They also aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by millions of tons each year.
Moreover, the Dukhan solar plant complements other projects in Al-Kharsaah, Mesaieed, and Ras Laffan. Together, these facilities could meet up to 30 percent of Qatar’s peak electricity demand. This network will create a robust platform for energy diversification and climate resilience.
Samsung C&T leaders expressed enthusiasm for contributing to Qatar’s low-carbon agenda. They stressed that advanced technology, including solar trackers and durable inverters, will ensure efficient performance in high temperatures. This focus on innovation will help optimize production throughout the plant’s lifecycle.
Industry analysts believe the project enhances Qatar’s reputation as a regional leader in clean energy investment. They note that strong government backing and international partnerships create a favorable environment for large-scale renewables. The initiative also supports the global shift toward sustainable electricity.
Looking forward, QatarEnergy plans to coordinate closely with stakeholders to deliver each phase on schedule. The Dukhan solar plant underscores Qatar’s determination to expand renewable power while supporting long-term environmental and economic stability.
