Farmer payments advanced in Iraq as the Ministry of Trade confirmed the distribution of funds to farmers across all provinces. The initiative supports the agricultural sector and improves national food security while reinforcing government commitments to rural livelihoods.
According to ministry spokesperson Mohammed Hanoun Kareem, the agency received two trillion Iraqi dinars from the Ministry of Finance. Officials immediately distributed the money to farmers and producers following clear mechanisms that ensured fairness and transparency. Authorities prioritized payments based on delivery order at marketing centers.
Moreover, Hanoun explained that the government expects additional allocations soon from the finance ministry. Once received, the ministry will release the next tranches to cover remaining dues, ensuring continuity in the payment process. He noted that officials designed the plan to protect farmers’ rights and sustain grain production.
Importantly, the spokesperson highlighted that the Kurdistan Region will benefit from future tranches as soon as funding becomes available. This step underscores the government’s commitment to equitable support for all agricultural producers, regardless of location or administrative affiliation.
Hanoun stressed that farmer payments form part of a broader strategy to strengthen Iraq’s agricultural output. By settling outstanding dues promptly, the state encourages producers to increase supplies and maintain high-quality crops. Officials believe this approach will reduce reliance on imports and promote self-sufficiency.
Furthermore, ministry representatives emphasized that transparent procedures help build trust between farmers and public institutions. They said clear payment rules motivate producers to deliver crops on schedule and enhance accountability in the supply chain. Such practices also help stabilize rural incomes and foster community resilience.
Analysts point out that timely farmer payments can positively influence food prices and consumer confidence. By supporting steady production, the initiative may also boost employment and contribute to sustainable rural development across the country.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Trade pledged to keep cooperating with the Ministry of Finance to release the remaining funds. Officials aim to sustain support for farmers and safeguard Iraq’s food security. Through efficient financial management, authorities intend to reinforce confidence in the agricultural economy.
