UAE – Abu Dhabi Tops World’s Happiest Cities List for 2025, Dubai Also Among Top 20

Abu Dhabi has earned the title of world’s happiest city for 2025, marking a major milestone in the UAE’s ongoing commitment to quality of life and well-being. The UAE capital leads globally, while Dubai ranked 16th among the top 20 happiest cities. The report is based on residents’ perceptions of their daily lives, optimism, and satisfaction with their cities.

The annual global study evaluates cities using a wide range of indicators. It measures how people feel about where they live, how connected they are to their communities, and how hopeful they feel about the future. This year’s results show that happiness in Abu Dhabi continues to rise, driven by social stability, safety, and strong community ties.

Following Abu Dhabi on the list are Medellín, Cape Town, and Mexico City. Mumbai secured fifth place, while Beijing and Shanghai ranked sixth and seventh. Their inclusion reflects Asia’s growing focus on livability and happiness. Chicago, Seville, and Melbourne completed the top ten, all recognized for their culture, inclusivity, and quality of life.

Cities such as Brighton, Porto, Sydney, Chiang Mai, and Marrakech also made the list, with Dubai taking the 16th spot. The remaining cities in the top 20 include Hanoi, Jakarta, Valencia, and Glasgow. Each city was praised for promoting strong community spirit and creating positive urban environments.

The happiness metric is based on residents’ responses to five key statements, including how much their city makes them happy, whether they feel happier living there than elsewhere, and how joyful the people around them appear. The survey also assessed the enjoyment residents experience in daily life and the overall growth of happiness in the city over time.

Abu Dhabi’s top ranking reflects its long-term investment in urban development and sustainability. The city has implemented programs that promote health, family values, and work-life balance. It has also focused on innovation, clean public spaces, and smart infrastructure to enhance residents’ well-being and civic pride.

Dubai’s strong performance underscores its commitment to improving livability and community happiness. The city’s open economy, safety standards, and cultural diversity play key roles in fostering a positive atmosphere. Moreover, new policies continue to promote inclusion, sustainable mobility, and overall happiness.

The UAE’s success in global happiness rankings reflects its vision of progress and human development. Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai represent modern examples of how leadership and innovation can create thriving, joyful societies.
